Today’s cultural context is profoundly different than the one we were prepared for and too often navigating these changes on your own is lonely, confusing, frustrating, and often leads to burnout.
This course is for the pastoral leaders who are tired of doing it alone. We believe being in a safe community with other leaders facing these challenges will provide the human connections, support and encouragement needed to stay the course.
This group will meet for 2 hours each week for 10 weeks. Each session will be a facilitated dialogue about the significant changes we are experiencing and how to lead more effectively in the face of those changes. Over the 10 weeks, we’ll look at how four major mental model shifts influence the nature of pastoral leadership: mission, systems, discipleship, and change.
About the course:
In the fall of 2021, Jim taught a course at Fuller Seminary Houston entitled “Pastoral Leadership and the Missional Church.” The course received such high praise from the participants, he decided to offer it through The Leader’s Journey to make it accessible to more people.
Jim will facilitate this course with his colleague, Michael DeRuyter. Jim pastored a very non-traditional missional church for 14 years in Texas, and Mike pastored a traditional church in Michigan for 15 years as they engaged the missional journey. Their successes and failures, along with their work with scores of congregations who were mapping their way forward, have equipped them to do this work.
